About NCQHA

The North Carolina Quarter Horse Association was established in 1963 with the objective to “stimulate and regulate any and all other matters such as may pertain to the breeding, exhibition, publicity, sale, racing or improvements of this breed”. NCQHA with its long history and presence in North Carolina has had a huge impact on both the breed and the equine industry. Multiple national and world champion horses have been bred, born, trained and exhibited in this state by an exceptional group of owners, trainers and riders. A study commissioned by the N C General Assembly, showed the economic impact of the equine industry in North Carolina to be approximately $1.9 billion, and the home to over 300,000 horses in all 100 counties; housed at over 53,000 households and equine operations.

NCQHA has experienced stable membership of 500 plus members over recent years and those members are an enthusiastic group who breed, raise, train, show or just plain love the American Quarter Horse. For those who like to compete the association offers both beginner level horse shows, as well as premier horse show events such as the Tar Heel Triple Classic, which is held every summer in Raleigh, North Carolina. In addition, members can participate in the annual September Trail Ride in the mountains of beautiful western North Carolina.
